Profile of the day Chelsey Mikimoto


With almost 10 years in the entertainment industry, Australian transgender showgirl and female illusionist Chelsey Mikimoto (pronounced 'Chel-see Mee-kee-mo-to') has taken her unique talents through cabaret, corporate entertainment, pageants, community events and the catwalk. Chelsey gained national attention this year after being crowned Miss Transsexual Australia 2010, Australia's first pageant for transgenders and transsexuals.

Famous for her high cheekbones, cleavage and exotic looks, Chelsey's stage career began at the Star Hotel (Melbourne) in the early 1990s and since then she has built up a solid professional reputation both on and off stage, wowing audiences and fans from all walks of life with her charismatic stage presence, exotic glamour and effervescent personality.

Versatile and prolific, Singapore-born Chelsey has produced, directed and headlined production shows in Australia, including Asia Major, Divas of Asia, Shanghai Follies, Tiger Lilies and Year of the Tiger. In 2008, she performed at the opening ceremony of the 1st Asia Pacific Outgames. She performs in Asia Major, Club Boom Boom, La Cage Australia, La Femme Garcon and Lost in Paradise.

Outside Australia, Chelsey has brought her special brand of gender illusion to major entertainment venues in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong and Shanghai. Along with entertaining as herself, Chelsey also performs live character impersonations of leading Asian songbirds, including pop diva Coco Lee (the first Chinese to perform at the Oscars), Faye Wong and Sandy Lam.

On February 6, 2010 in Melbourne, Australia, Chelsey was crowned Miss Transsexual Australia 2010.
